Vitaly Friedman explores the significant role designers play in achieving business outcomes and how they contribute to business impact. He emphasizes the importance of understanding where design fits in the broader business universe, which is crucial for UX designers who often view their work as central to all business activities.

Vitaly Friedman references Paul Adams' talk, which offers a realistic view of design's role in organizations, both small and large. Contrary to popular belief, design is not always at the heart of business operations. Instead, it functions as one of many vital satellites within a company. This talk challenges the common misconception that UX design is the core driver of business success. Vitaly Friedman discusses how designers can drive business outcomes by developing measurable design KPIs that align with business objectives. Unlike sales, marketing, finance, and support, design often lacks clear KPIs. By establishing relevant KPIs, designers can better articulate their value and demonstrate their contribution to business success. He also highlights the importance of building relationships with sales, marketing, and other departments. Understanding the priorities and challenges of these teams can enhance the effectiveness of design initiatives. Designers should collaborate closely with these departments to integrate more seamlessly into business processes and maximize their impact. Vitaly Friedman points out that the number of designers versus other roles in a company reflects the organization's focus. Recognizing this dynamic helps designers adjust their expectations and strategies accordingly. The distribution of roles within an organization signifies its priorities, and understanding this can guide designers in positioning their work more effectively.

Join Vitaly Friedman in this discussion to explore the true role of design in business and learn how you can maximize your impact as a designer. By adopting these strategies, designers can enhance their value and contribute more effectively to business outcomes.
