In this video, Ioana Teleanu explores the potential and limitations of AI in UX design and how AI can augment, but not replace, the role of human designers. While AI can streamline workflows by automating tasks like formatting, resizing, and generating insights, it is not without its limitations. Ioana discusses how AI can reduce cognitive load, enhance decision-making, and even spot usability issues, but emphasizes that human oversight is critical at every step of the design process.

Ioana breaks down the difference between AI-powered research tools, such as "insight generators" and "AI collaborators." She explains how these tools can help UX designers, but highlights significant limitations, including a lack of context, poor handling of visual input, and issues like bias and unstable performance. For example, current AI tools are unable to process usability testing videos, relying solely on transcripts, which can miss critical context and actions. The video also examines how AI’s potential in UX design could supercharge your work if used properly. However, Ioana stresses that while AI can be a helpful tool, it is far from perfect. AI systems often produce generic results, struggle with understanding nuanced user behavior, and may introduce biases. Designers must apply critical thinking and maintain an "outside-in" approach, ensuring AI outputs are validated and used cautiously.

Produced by the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF), this video offers valuable insights into how AI will impact UX design in the future and what limitations still exist. Ioana Teleanu provides practical advice for UX designers looking to supercharge your design work with AI, explaining both its potential benefits and the need for human oversight to ensure quality and relevance in the design process. Whether you’re curious about the future of AI in UX design or want to learn how to use AI tools effectively, this video is a must-watch for designers navigating the evolving landscape of AI technology.
